Water damage presents enough grief and problems as it is, but you can still save your electronics. You should always make sure that all electrical items are safely unplugged and turned off, beforehand, to prevent electrocution or serious injuries. Once you notice that your electronic item is still wet, you can turn it off, unplug it and remove any and all detachable parts. These parts include USB cables, antennas, and all batteries. You can take a piece of soft cloth, and begin to gently wipe each item that has been damaged by water. You can also use a hair dryer to help speed the process up a bit, and to properly heat certain items as well. Be extra careful not to let your electronic items overheat. Always make sure to keep the hair dryer a few inches away from the electronics to avoid damaging them. After you’ve carefully finished blow drying the items, you should leave it for at least 24 hours, preferably with a fan blowing on it to help dry any remaining moisture. Depending on how wet the electronic item is, you may want to let them dry even longer. There is no rush here, so take your time, and just be patient.
You should always beware of any electrical sockets or wires that have been affected by the water. These areas should always be avoided at all times. If you notice that a wire has been short circuited, don’t attempt to remove it or go anywhere near it. This is definitely a job for a professional that uses safety equipment. Once your home has been completely drained of any remaining excess water, you should double check to see if your electronics have been saved. Your electronics should be ready the following day, depending on the severity of the water damage. Once your home is completely safe and dry from the water, you can then plug the items into the sockets and insert the batteries again.
